Justifying the work
One of the aims of your prospectus will be to justify why you will complete a dissertation on the topic that you choose. In order to help you to do this, you will need to present the aims of your paper, and what it is you hope to achieve by writing work that you produce. Furthermore, you will need to outline any research methods that you intend to use, as well as explaining how these methods will enable you to answer any questions that you may pose, as well as what will be required when carrying out these methods.
The use of relevant literature
As part of your prospectus – and to back up any justifications that you’re making – you will need to include details of any relevant literature related to the topic that you will be researching and writing about.
For example, if you are writing about Western literature, then you may wish to include references to various related authors or pieces of literature that are similar to the authors or literature you will be studying as part of your essay.
As well as including references to any aspect of literature that are related to the topic that you are studying, you may also wish to include details of any other studies that have been performed by other people. By including details of other studies and academic papers completed by other people, you can demonstrate the importance of the topic that you are studying, as well as provide any findings that may have been reached by other individuals in the past.
Your plan of action
Another important part of your prospectus will be a plan. Your plan will include a detailed and realistic timeframe of what will be required and when you will do the work.
